RESULTS OF THE 25th NATIONAL TITLES 2006 ADELAIDE SA

 AMAZING ADELAIDE TURNS IT ON!!

JKA South Australia played host to 235 JKA Australia members and 14  students from Aoyama University, Tokyo Japan recently for the 25th JKA National Championships.  The students were guests of JKASA host families for two weeks in total, and enjoyed a fantastic time seeing the many beautiful sights of South Australia, meeting many new friends and also participating in some great training and competition.  Special thanks to all the host families for looking after our Aoyama friends during this time

Monday 20th March commenced with a spirited training seminar, although a deep sadness filtered through the Dojo at the news of the passing of Sensei Peter Brimblecombe, 3rd Dan, Instructor from the western Queensland Dojo of Emerald.  Peter was just 43 years of age when cancer took him from his family and friends.  Senior members and all JKA Queensland members wore black arm bands in memory of Peter and his 25 years of dedication to JKA.

Two more days of intense training, under Takahashi Shihan, OAM, Chief Instructor of the South Pacific, and assisted by Sensei Nishimura from Melbourne, continued on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially for those Junior members aspiring for places in the Australian Junior Team to contest the Funakoshi Gichin Cup 10th World Karate-do Championships to be held in Sydney, Australia from 14-20 August this year.  Shihan named a 63 member Junior Team to contest the World Junior Cup and confirmed the 11 Seniors and 2 coaches for the Senior Teams.

Thursday was the traditional rest day with everyone taking the opportunity to see more of South Australia and take advantage of the glorious weather conditions.  Friday was Kyu grade competition, giving Kyu grades  the opportunity to compete at this level, some for the first time.  The afternoon saw the elimination rounds in team kata and culminated in the exciting State Team Kumite rounds.  The loud, enthusiastic cheering from the spectators certainly proved rousing and motivational for the team members.

Saturday dawned as Black Belt Competition Day.  Plenty of action was to take place with some surprising and some not so surprising results.  Extra competition was added with the inclusion of our guests from Aoyama University into the draws, giving a good spirited contest.  The highlight of the day was the Mens and Womens Team Kumite Tests between Australia and Japan with the Australian Women and Japanese Men taking out the honours.

Special thanks, on behalf ot JKA Australia, go to Dion Risborg and his team from JKA South Australia for hosting this event.  The Nationals always continue to be a fantastic week of great training, great competition and also great social, giving all Instructors and members the opportunity to catch up with other members of the JKA family, thus giving renewed enthusiasm to everyone for the return home to their Dojos.
